==================
1. THURSDAY NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE
Our weekly noon vigils are on Thursdays. We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, February 25, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be in the low 30s under mostly sunny skies. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.
2. ST PATRICK'S DAY PARADE
We will be walking for peace once again in this year's St. Pat's parade on Saturday, March 13. More details later.
3. 1000TH US SOLDIER TO DIE IN AFGHANISTAN
The 1,000th US soldier to die in Afghanistan died this week. Being a retired mathematician, I don't put much stock in numbers. Any number greater than zero sent to die in a war of aggression against the "graveyard of empires" is too many. Support the troops; bring them home!
4. THE HIGHEST CONSERVATIVE VALUE
George Lakoff notes in A Good Week For Science — and Insight into Politics that "the highest conservative value is preserving and empowering their moral system itself." The heck with the people, the heck with the Constitution, the heck with Truth, the heck with fairness, equality, freedom or any of those ideals we consider good. What does it matter how many innocent people die on account of their moral system. They are true believers! - impervious to logic and reason. This article is somewhat long; but well worth reading.
