1. THURSDAY NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE

Our weekly noon vigils are on Thursdays. We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, March 4, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be in the low 40s under sunny skies. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.

2. ST PATRICK'S DAY PARADE

We will be walking for peace once again in this year's St. Pat's parade on Saturday, March 13. More details later.

3. 1000TH US SOLDIER TO DIE IN AFGHANISTAN???

I've been informed that by some methods of counting, the death toll is still somewhat shy of 1,000. Others place it even higher. I got the figure last week from http://icasulaties.org. Again, any number greater than zero sent to die in a war of aggression against the "graveyard of empires" is too many. Support the troops; bring them home!

4. THE ENDLESS HAUL

Feel overwhelmed by all the evil in the world? Read this interview with Abe Osheroff by Robert Jensen.

The important thing is not to retreat into despair or cynicism. The important thing is not whether you win or lose. The important thing is to keep struggling no matter how great the obstacles; and to find it gratifying.

Three things that I find helpful:

Keep your sense of humor. As Mark Twain put it: "Against the assault of laughter, nothing can stand."

And look at the big picture. Empires come and go; but life goes on. Empires are not just vulnerable; they are destined to crumble.

And remember Gandhi's famous dictum: "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

5. RALPH NADER ON CASINO CAPITALISM AND SECRET WARS

Ralph Nader discusses Casino Capitalism and Secret Wars. Just think: We have had four chances to elect Ralph Nader president, and blown each one. Maybe we'll get a fifth chance in two years. Maybe this time we will elect him president.
