1. THIS WEEK: THURSDAY, APRIL 15, NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE
Our weekly noon vigils are on Thursdays. We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, April 15, from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. April 15 is tax day, the day your annual contribution to our bloated military budget is due - an excellent day to vigil for peace. The temperature is predicted to be in the mid 70s under mostly sunny skies. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.
2. NEXT WEEK ONLY: WEEKLY NOON VIGIL MOVED TO TUESDAY, APRIL 20
Because of the Earthday celebrations on Thursday April 22, next week only we will move our weekly noon vigil at the Post Office to Tuesday, April 20. The following week we return to Thursday vigils.
3. THE LARGEST MILITARY BUDGET EVER
The 2011 FY budget is on track to weigh in at around $3 trillion. 53% or $1.6 trillion will be spent on the military - the largest ever military budget - both in absolute dollars and inflation-adjusted dollars - including the World War II years, (click here).
4. ONE MARINE'S "LIBERTY WALK"
This article by Chris Hedges about a disillusioned marine and the face of modern populism is a must read, (click here).
