1. THURSDAY NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE
Our weekly noon vigils are on Thursdays. We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, May 27, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be around 80 with a 40% chance of rain. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.
2. FORGET ABOUT "GOOD GOVERNANCE" IN AFGHANISTAN
US policy in Afghanistan shifts from providing "good governance" (when has a war of aggression ever given its victims "good governance") to "targeted raids" (read assassinations), (click here). Targeted raids don't work because for every Talib we kill, there are 20 more left to take his place. Providing "good governance" would require getting rid of our good friends, the thugs and gangsters like Wali Karzai.
In March, Gen. Michael Flynn remarked of Wali Karzai, "The only way to clean up Chicago is to get rid of Capone." 77 years ago Major General (USMC) Smedley Butler remarked insightfully, "Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents," (click here). And that is why our occupations do not provide "good governance."
3. THE WAR IS MAKING YOU POOR
Florida congressman, Alan Grayson introduces "The War Is Making You Poor Act," which would abolish the $159 billion supplemental spending for the Iraq and Afghanistan occupations. The Grayson bill would use these funds to eliminate all federal income tax on incomes less than $35,000 and the remainder would help to pay down the national debt, (click here).
4. REWRITING HISTORY
Bill Bigelow discusses social studies teaching "standards" in Texas and elsewhere, (click here). As George Orwell pointed out in his novel, 1984, "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past." If you haven't read 1984 recently, this is a good time to reread it. "Down with Big Brother!"
