1. THURSDAY NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE

Our weekly noon vigils are on Thursdays. We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, June 3, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be in the high 70s with a chance of rain. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.

2. PIRACY ON THE HIGH SEAS

In 1967, Israel mounted an unprovoked attack on the reconnaissance vessel, USS Liberty, in international waters, killing 34 and wounding 173, (click here). Israel was rewarded for this act of war against us by then President Lyndon Johnson with $3 Billion of aid which they have been receiving annually ever since.

This week Israel mounted another unprovoked attack in international waters, this time on an unarmed international flotilla carrying much needed humanitarian aid to Gaza, killing at least 10 and injuring many, (click here). If the past is a good predictor of the future, the US may again reward Israel for this act of piracy on the high seas.

3. WORST OIL SPILL YET? ASK A NIGERIAN

The massive oil spill that has been ravaging the Gulf of Mexico for over a month, with no sign of letting up, is just a common everyday occurrence in Nigeria where more oil leaks into the Gulf of Niger every year than has leaked from BP's Deepwater Horizon, (click here). But, the US media is uninterested in corporate polluters that do as they please in the Third World without any effective oversight.

Ralph Nader (remember, the guy we could have elected president four times) points out how congress defunded its own Office of Technology Assessment 15 years ago, (click here). The OTA could have prevented the Deepwater Horizon disaster. In fact in the 1980s when Reagan started deregulating industry, Nader predicted that if unchecked, corporate deregulation would end in disaster for all. (Put it all together: Banking, Insurance, Healthcare, Oil and much more.) Remember, you have already had 4 chances to vote for Ralph Nader. Consider voting for Ralph Nader in 2012, should he agree to run again.

4. WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND

It's common knowledge that Timothy McVeigh, after serving in Gulf War I, brought his knowledge of war home, killing 168 including 19 children under age 6 at the Alfred P. Murray building in Oklahoma City. McVeigh was executed. Here's a story of a soldier who came home from Vietnam and got a job with the Chicago Police torturing his victims, (click here). He's living high in Florida right now. And here's one about the ongoing torture regime at Bagram, (click here). How many US soldiers will come home from Bagram to apply what they learned there? What goes around, comes around.
