1. THURSDAY NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE
Our weekly noon vigils are now on Thursdays. We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, August 20, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be in the mid to high 70s with a chance of rain. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.
2. APOCALYPSE OR CHANGE?
George Monbiot and Paul Kingsnorth debate what to do about the impending collapse of industrial civilization, (click here). Monbiot argues for fighting to prevent collapse. Kingsnorth intends to work for the establishment of a saner society after the collapse.
This debate has been going on in many forms since the dawn of history. I suspect this debate will continue long after the collapse of industrial civilization, if, indeed, it collapses.
Both Monbiot and Kingsnorth present a minority point of view. Most prefer to continue with business as usual until long after it becomes impossible to conduct our usual business.
Personally, I much prefer Monbiot's position and intend to struggle for a saner world now rather than later. If you also agree with Monbiot, please consider joining us at our weekly peace vigils. Certainly, if we can't break our addiction to war, all else will fail.

It demonstrates so clearly and comically the lengths to which "health care" industries will go to maintain their obscene profits while denying basic health care to so many people.
