Dear Friends:

1. THURSDAY NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE
2. WOMEN'S "EQUALITY" DAY

==================
1. THURSDAY NOON VIGIL FOR PEACE
Our weekly noon vigils are on Thursdays. We vigil for peace in front of the Rolla Post Office THIS THURSDAY, September 2, (and all subsequent Thursdays until peace is established) from Noon to 1:00 PM. Please try to join us. The temperature is predicted to be in the mid 80s with a 50% chance of rain. If you do not feel comfortable standing with us in front of the Post Office, please consider driving by and showing your support for our message by honking your horn and flashing a peace sign.
2. WOMEN'S "EQUALITY" DAY
90 Years after passage of the 19th amendment (Women's Suffrage) to the US Constitution, Elizabeth Galewski reminds us of the struggle past and the struggle yet to come, (click here).
Lucinda Marshall notes that, among other statistics, women hold 16.8% of the seats in the US Congress and 3% of positions of clout in mainstream media, (click here).
Michelle Chen discusses how economic instability disproportionately impacts single women, (click here), and how environmental injustice is causing early puberty in women as young as 7, (click here).
Alex Hannaford discusses the strange case of Teresa Lewis, who faces an imminent death for arranging to have two men kill her husband, (click here). The two men who actually pulled the trigger got off with life in prison. Ms. Lewis has an IQ of 72.
Meanwhile, here is Rolla, Donna Hawley has been ordered by Judge Ron White to stand trial for felony assault against Rolla Municipal Utilities (RMU) employee, Dennis Roberts. It appears from testimony given last week that Donna Hawley, who is disabled, neither threatened nor touched Mr. Roberts, as Roberts attempted to prevent her from entering a meeting of the Missouri Public Energy Pool. Mr. Roberts is much larger than Ms. Hawley and appears healthy. Rolla has an all male mayor and council. The RMU Board is also entirely male, and appears to strenuously dislike women meddling in this male-dominated field. I have written about this on numerous occasions, for example, (click here).
Women, you have a long way to go.
